Rug Cleaning in St. Matthews

The room over the garage is the St. Matthews problem, and so is every other room in these houses that gets shut in November to keep the heating bill down. A floor over an unheated garage sits within a few degrees of the outside air in January while the rest of the house is at seventy, and the door at the bottom of the stairs does nothing to stop warm humid air from the heated part of the house finding its way in. That air meets a floor at thirty-five degrees and gives up its moisture there, on and under whatever is lying on it. The rug becomes the coldest, dampest and least disturbed thing in the building for four months, in the dark, and because nobody walks on it, nothing about it changes and nobody looks. Two things follow: a wool foundation held at a moisture content it should never see, and the precise conditions clothes moths are looking for. They feed from the underside, so the surface still reads as intact while the knots behind it are going. Almost every moth job we take in this neighborhood comes out of a closed room rather than a lived-in one.
